Lakeside Water LWT-9000/9500 Series water softeners are designed specifically for hardness (calcium and magnesium) and iron removal. The LWT-9000/9500 Series softeners are twin alternating softeners with meter initiated regeneration. They feature corrosion resistant construction and are ideally suited for commercial and industrial applications. Standard pre-engineered systems are available with exchange capacities from 30,000 to 300,000 grains. The following standard equipment is included:


The LWT-9000/9500 series softeners feature twin alternating operation.  Two (2) softener tanks are furnished to allow one to be in service while the other is in regeneration or standby. This assures that there is a continuous supply of soft water available. A water meter is used to alternate the tanks and initiate regeneration based on water usage to increase salt efficiency and prevent hard water during periods of high water use.


The softener tanks shall be manufactured of wound fiberglass with polyethylene lining. The inner shell constructed of high density polyethylene (HDPE) which is wound with a continuous fiberglass roving for strength. The tanks are rated for a maximum pressure of 150 psig and maximum temperature of 120° F and are factory tested prior to shipping.  The tanks shall meet the requirements of NSF, UL and WQA.


The resin shall be premium quality, strong acid, sodium form cation exchange resin. The resin will be bead-form, 8% cross linked, polystyrene sulfonated cation exchange resin.  The capacity of the resin will be a minimum of 30,000 grains/cu. ft. when regenerated with 15 lbs of salt and operated at standard conditions. The resin shall not add color to the water and must comply with FDA regulations paragraph 173:25 and be approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.


A 1” (9000) or 1-1/2 (9500) inch fully automatic multiport control valve shall be provided to control both tanks. The valve automatically alternates softener tanks and cycles the exhausted tank through the backwash, brine draw, slow rinse, rapid rinse brine refill and standby modes. The valve shall be constructed with cast brass valve body and Teflon coated brass piston.  The valve will be controlled by two (2) pistons that are motor driven for positive operation. The control system shall consist of piston motor timer/positioner which controls the regeneration program and is fully adjustable. System regeneration shall be initiated by a water meter based on water usage. The system shall include an automatic flow control to regulate the backwash and rinse flow rates regardless of feed water pressure fluctuation between 25 and 120 psig. The system shall use soft water for the regeneration process.


Flow meters shall be provided to initiate regeneration based on water use to increase salt efficiency and prevent hard water bypass during periods of high water use. A 1” electronic paddle wheel or 1.5” Electronic turbine meter housing shall be constructed with 30% glass filled Noryl. The accuracy shall be + or - 3% of reading using a Hall Effect switch. A pressure drop of 1.5 psi @30GPM and maximum water temperature shall be less than 100F.


The brine system shall include a brass and/or plastic body eductor that is integral with the control valve.  A flow control orifice shall be provided to control the brine tank refill flow rate for accurate brine measurement.  The brine tank shall be constructed of polyethylene and include a tight fitting cover, brine well, overflow and salt platform.  An air check assembly is provided to prevent drawing air into the system at the end of the brine cycle.


The softener tanks will be equipped with a hub and lateral distributor system constructed of ABS and PVC.  The laterals will be slotted to prevent media loss.  The distributor shall be covered with a gravel support bed.


The following options are available to meet specific application requirements:


Pressure gauges and sample valves can be provided as required.  The standard pressure gauges are 2.5 inch diameter liquid filled with brass wetted parts and stainless steel case.  The sample valves are ¼ inch PVC.

The softener mineral tanks shall be skid mounted on a 4" channel carbon steel skid. The skid shall be cross-braced with 4" channel or angle iron with legs for an elevated skid. All steel surfaces shall be primed and epoxy coated for maximum corrosion resistance.  All interconnecting piping shall be assembled to the fullest extent possible. The inlet and outlet isolation valve connections, brine and drain headers shall terminate inside the skid internal area. All piping shall be suitably supported and anchored to the skid. All electrical wiring shall be complete between the units, and the hydraulic or pneumatic tubing shall be installed as part of the skid package. The entire skid mounted system shall be fully tested as a unit by the manufacturers designing engineer before shipment.


The control system can be designed to meet the application requirements.  Typical options include electronic timers.  The timers are field-configurable, easy to read LCD backlit display and diagnostics mode.

Three (3) complete sets of installation, operation and maintenance manuals shall be provided.


Attrition loss of mineral is guaranteed not to exceed 3% per year for a period of three (3) years. All mechanical and electrical equipment is guaranteed for eighteen (18) months from date of shipment or one (1) year from date of service against any defects in workmanship or material. Any part proving defective shall be replaced or repaired within this period at manufacturer’s option. The manufacturer guarantees that under actual operating conditions the mineral shall not be washed out of the system during the service run or backwashing period; and that the turbidity and color of the effluent by reason of passing through the softener system, shall not be greater than the incoming water; and that the underdrain system, gravel and minerals shall not become fouled, either with turbidity or by dirt, rust or scale from the softening system while operating as noted in manufacturer’s instructions
