Lakeside Water LWF Series filters feature corrosion resistant construction and are ideally suited for commercial and industrial applications. Standard pre-engineered systems shall be available with diameters from 8 to 30 inches with larger systems available on a custom engineered basis. The system shall be of an approved design as fabricated by a manufacturer regularly engaged in the production of water treatment equipment for a minimum of 20 years. All equipment and materials shall be supplied in compliance with the specifications as intended for a complete and operational system.
The filter tanks shall be manufactured of wound fiberglass with polyethylene lining. The inner shell shall be constructed of high density polyethylene (HDPE) which is wound with continuous fiberglass roving for strength. The tank shall be rated at 150 psig operating pressure and 120° F temperature. Each tank shall be factory pressure tested prior to shipment. The tanks shall meet the requirements of NSF, UL and WQA.
An activated carbon filter bed shall be provided for chlorine, organics, color, taste and odor reduction and/or removal. The carbon shall be manufactured from bituminous coal with a 12X40 mesh particle size and has approximately 900 square meters of surface area per gram. The carbon will have a minimum iodine number of 850 and a minimum abrasion number of 75.
A dual-media filter bed shall be provided for efficient iron and suspended solids reduction and/or removal. The filter bed shall consist of two layers of media to reduce filter pressure drop, provide deep bed filtration and long filter runs. The first layer will consist of hard coal anthracite with an effective size of 0.6 to 0.8 mm. The second layer consists of manganese greensand with an effective size of 0.3 to 0.35 mm. The manganese greensand can be regenerated with potassium permanganate and chlorine for efficient iron reduction and/or removal.
A multi-media filter bed shall be provided for superior quality effluent and long filter runs. The filter bed shall be constructed of graded layers of media to provide a deep bed filtration, low pressure drop and the ability to remove particles down to 10 microns. The top layer will consist of hard coal anthracite with the effective size of 0.6 to 0.8 mm. The second layer consists of sand with and effective size of 0.45 to 0.55 mm. The third layer consists of 30-40 mesh garnet with and effective size of 0.25 to 0.42 mm. The fourth layer consists of 8-12 mesh garnet with and effective size of 1.4 mm. The total bed depth shall be a minimum of 30 inches.
A fully automatic multiport control valve shall be provided to cycle the filter through the down flow service, up flow backwash and down flow rinse operating modes. The valve shall be constructed with cast brass valve body and Teflon coated brass piston. The valve will be controlled by a single piston that is motor driven for positive operation. The control system shall consist of piston motor timer/positioner which controls the regeneration program and is fully adjustable. A clock is provided to allow the system to be regenerated at any time of the day or night, on any day(s) of the week. An auxiliary switch shall be provided to allow the filter to be interlocked with other equipment during the regeneration cycle. The system shall include an automatic flow control to regulate the backwash and rinse flow rates regardless of feed water pressure fluctuation between 25 and 120 psig. The valve shall include an automatic regeneration bypass to provide an uninterrupted supply of water during regeneration.
Filters with 14 inch diameter and larger tanks will be equipped with a hub and lateral distributor system constructed of PVC. The laterals will be slotted to prevent media loss. Tanks 12 inch diameter and smaller will include a single non-clogging segmented distributor constructed of ABS. The distributor shall be covered with a gravel support bed.
The following options are available to meet specific application requirements:
The mineral tanks shall be skid mounted on a 4" channel iron skid. The skid shall be cross-braced with 4" channel or angle iron with legs for an elevated skid. All steel surfaces shall be primed and epoxy coated for maximum corrosion resistance. All interconnecting piping shall be assembled to the fullest extent possible. The inlet and outlet isolation valve connections and drain headers shall terminate inside the skid internal area. All piping shall be suitably supported and anchored to the skid. All electrical wiring shall be complete between the units, and the hydraulic or pneumatic tubing shall be installed as part of the skid package. The entire skid mounted system shall be leak and electrically tested as a unit by the manufacturer’s engineers.

Three (3) complete sets of installation, operation and maintenance manuals shall be provided.
Attrition loss of mineral is guaranteed not to exceed 3% per year for a period of three (3) years. All mechanical and electrical equipment is guaranteed for eighteen (18) months from date of shipment or one (1) year from date of service against any defects in workmanship or material. Any part proving defective shall be replaced or repaired within this period at manufacturer’s option. The manufacturer guarantees that under actual operating conditions the mineral shall not be washed out of the system during the service run or backwashing period; and that the turbidity and color of the effluent by reason of passing through the softener system, shall not be greater than the incoming water; and that the underdrain system, gravel and minerals shall not become fouled, either with turbidity or by dirt, rust or scale from the softening system while operating as noted in manufacturer’s instructions
